Yukengou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Kuruktag region. The Yukengou Fm was named by E. Norin. The type section (E87°32′30″; N41°26′09″) is located in Yukengou area on the southern side of the west tip of Kuruktag, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). The reference section is located at the Zhaobi Mountain in central Kuruktag, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). Upper-middle formation of the Kuruktag Gr (7 of 9).
Synonym: (育肯沟组) Yukkenggol Fm; 克根库都克组(岩系), Kegenkuduke Fm (Rock Series).
Lithology and Thickness
The Yukengou Fm is a series of clastic rocks composed of uneven interbedded thin-bedded dark gray, gray-green siltstone, silty shale, shale (laminated slate) with calcareous siltstone and with minor muddy unstable interbeds of marl, fine-grained sandstone and feldspathic quartz sandstone, with the latter showing brown coloration. The Yukengou Formation is 210-350 m thick, locally 583 m thick (central Kuruktag).

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Yukengou Fm is conformable with the underlying Zhamokti Fm
Upper contact
The Yukengou Fm is conformable with the overlying Shuiquan Fm
Regional extent
Kuruktag region. The Yukengou Formation is widespread from Yukengou east of Korla in southwest tip of the eastern Kuruktag to the northern slope of Xingditag, Moqingkuduk, Luoqinbulak, Zhaobi Mt. (Central Kuruktag), and eastward to Yulegunbulak (eastern Kuruktag) south of Shanshan County.

Fossils
Abundant microplants have been found in this formation, such as: Trachysphaeridium incrassatum, T. rude, T. cultum, T. simples, Pseudozonosphaera asperella, P. rugosa, P. uerrucosa, P. nucleolata and Asperatopsophosphaera umishanensis.

Depositional setting
The Yukengou Formation clastic rocks were deposited in the deeper part of a continental margin.
